Giorgio di Palma
Giorgio di Palma was born in 1981 in Grottaglie (Taranto) in southern Italy, an important place of historical and traditional ceramic production. After studying and graduating in archaeology, he spent several years abroad (Hungary, Portugal, Germany) and decided to return to Grottaglie in 2010 to open a ceramics studio. He was encouraged by his father, the famous ceramic artist Luigi di Palma.
His ceramics that nobody needs (ceramiche di cui non c’era bisogno) are reproductions of everyday objects in their original size, which have no function but are charged with aesthetic and conceptual meaning. Di Palma enjoys transforming the useless into the eternal with his ceramics and immortalizing moments. In 2017, the ICMEA (International Ceramics Magazine Editors Association) awarded him the Fule Prize as part of the global competition for emerging ceramicists. His works are exhibited in numerous museums and public and private collections in Europe, Asia and America. He has participated in several artist residencies, made videos and published books about them. Giorgio di Palma mainly works with clay using the slab technique, glazing the objects and firing them at a low temperature. In fact, Giorgio di Palma not only creates ceramics, but also drawings, performances, videos, photographs and publications.
